Professional Experience
Senior Mechanical Inspection Engineer, responsible to the Inspection Manager for the provision of the inspection service to the Refinery Production Units, including the High Pressure (superheated) Steam (5300C 115Barg) Boiler Service Unit producing refinery steam and exporting electricity to the National Grid.
Supervision of a team of Plant Inspectors on full-time basis with supplementary labour as required by workload.
In addition to the previous role responsibilities, the following is added:
Formulation and implementation of the Pressure Systems and Transportable Gas Container Regulations Written Schemes of Examination, incorporating:
Identification and Registration of Relevant Fluid systems
Physical inspection and repair requirements
Setting of examination period and detail of examination requirements
Criticality based inspection implementation
Formulation of Corrosion under insulation inspection program
Identification and planning of all inspection requirements for scheduled on-stream and Major shutdown activities
Pre-shutdown inspection activities based on plant knowledge and history
Manpower planning
The planning and execution of 3 high pressure boiler shutdowns per year including collation of remnant life assessment studies for items operating in their creep range. Satisfying the independent Engineering Insurance Surveying Company in relation to Statutory obligations.
Identification of bad actors, Both rotating and static equipment and recommendations for improvement through thorough performance and history study.
Other Responsibilities
Authorised signatory for plant modification procedure, having sat on the development committee.
As a BSI Lead Assessor responsible for carrying out audits per company schedule
Monitoring and advising upon plant operating excursions where they may be detrimental to plant integrity and subsequent mitigating actions
Use of PC based packages
Overseas assignments to Europe, Middle East, South Africa and the Carribean, of 2-6 month duration as Major shutdown Lead Inspector and damage assessment in cases of plant fires etc.
