Case Study: Implication & Recommendation of Underbalanced Drilling (UBD) techniques in Naturally Highly Fractured & Depleted Limestone Reservoir in Sui, Pakistan.
The Sui Field is a depleted fractured limestone reservoir located in the west of Pakistan, producing oil and gas since 1952. It has extremely low reservoir pressure of 540 psi with possibility of 500 to 800 ppm H2S in Main Limestone reservoir .With conventional drilling technique; several attempts were made to reach the targeted main limestone reservoir but unsuccessful due to loss control & massive loss circulation.
In my thesis, simulation and modelling has been done to calculate the gas & liquid injection rate to attain the lowest Equivalent Circulating Density (ECD) of 1.66 ppg by foam underbalanced drilling technique. Furthermore, software simulation results are compared with theoretical Guos 4-phase model. Specific circulation system is designed for Sui field to avoid loss circulation and corrosion problems. Moreover, potential problems which might be encountered while drilling the well are also addressed in this thesis. In the end of the thesis, a brief description and specification of equipment is given which will be required in application of foam drilling operation.
