The government will not backtrack on its decision to build the first Egyptian nuclear plant in Dabaa area, said Planning and International Cooperation Minister Fayza Abul-Naga at a press conference following a ministerial meeting under Prime Minister Kamal el-Ganzouri on 22/1/2012. Meanwhile, Electricity and Energy Minister Hassan Younis deemed storming Dabaa site by some residents as unacceptable and a violation of State-owned property.
He pointed out that Dabaa land has been allocated to the nuclear project in 1982 saying there is no way to legally adjust an illegal state of affairs regarding this land. He also affirmed that the plant will take into consideration all required safety measures. On the other hand, the minister affirmed that the radioactive substances stolen from the site do not pose a threat as long as it is not opened or broken.
