Minister of Transport Galal Saeed has announced that he will inaugurate the container handling terminal at the East Port Said Port with investments reaching three billion pounds. Prime Minister Kamal El-Ganzouri underscored during a meeting with Saeed on 24/05/2012 the importance of luring more investments to Egyptian ports, the minister said. He said that the terminal will handle three million containers annually, a thing which will increase the overall annual capacity of the port to seven million containers.
The terminal has been developed as a twenty-first century facility to serve international shipping requirements in Egypt and the Eastern Mediterranean, he said, noting that its pivotal location at the northern end of the Suez Canal makes it ideal to serve as a major container hub port in that region.
