Dr. Mohamed Nassr Eddin Allam former irrigation Minister said the Ethiopian government plans to establish four dams on the Blue Nile which provide Egypt and Sudan with 85 per cent of the Nile water and that the dams’ storage capacity reaches 170 billion cubic meters.
The dams are expected to be completed by the year 2025. This would lead to cutting on the water quota of Egypt by almost 10 billion cubic meters annually, he added. Cairo is to host shortly a three-partite committee to evaluate the effects of the Ethiopian renaissance dam. The three-day meeting is to consider the results of ten experts of the Nile Basin countries feasibility studies which reached 100 studies on effects on environment, economic and social aspects.
