Prime Minister Hisham Qandil witnessed on 15/5/2013 the signing of a contract to finance a number of labor-intensive projects between the Social Fund for Development and the Ministries of Housing, Irrigation and Education.
Qandil also witnessed the signing of a cooperation protocol between Slums Development Fund and both Cairo and Menia governorates. Meantime, Minister of Housing Dr. Tareq Wafiq said these agreements target the unprivileged families in Menia, Assiut, Sohag, Luxor and Qena governorates, with the aim of upgrading their standards of living. The minister said the bill on developing the Suez Canal Corridor, which has been recently discussed by the cabinet, is now ready. He added that a relevant law would give the Suez Canal Development Authority the right to offer projects under usufruct system. He added that the government has future plans in Port Said and Ain Sokhna to establish investment projects. For his part, Minister of Irrigation Mohamed Baha Eddin said the ministry's share of the World Bank umbrella is $ 52 million for carrying out irrigation projects in the governorates of Aswan, Sohag, Assiut and Menia. He said l000 out of 17000 trespasses on the Nile are removed weekly. |
