SZGMC to Finance AED250m Projects for Egypt's Al Azhar

In line with the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Centre (SZGMC) has announced an initiative to fund projects for Egypt's Al Azhar Al Sharif at a total cost of AED 250 million.

Sheikh Khalifa's initiative comes as part of the continuous support to the people of Egypt and to Al Azhar Al Sharif, a beacon for Islamic moderation and centrism. The projects to be financed under the initiative include renovation of Al Azhar Al Sharif library and restoration '&' digitisation of its contents of rare manuscripts and publications. SZGMC will also provide funds for construction of four student hostels and a new library.

A memorandum of Understanding was signed today between the SZGMC and Al Azhar Al Sharif which provides for implementation of the projects and enhancing the strategic partnership and cooperation in scientific and cultural fields.

The MoU was signed for SZGMC by Sultan Dahi Al Hemairi and for Al Azhar Al Sharif by Dr Mohamed Al Ahmadi Abu Al Nour. Earlier today, Grand Imam of Al Azhar Al Sharif, Sheikh Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayyeb, visited the tomb of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. He was accompanied by UAE Jutsice Minister Dr Hadef bin Jawan Al Dhaheri and members of Al Azhar Al Sharif delegation.
