H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE Foreign Minister, discussed here with the Serbian Foreign Minister, Ivan Mrkic, the bilateral relations between the UAE and Serbia and ways of developing them to serve the interests of the two countries and peoples.
They exchanged views on the latest regional and international developments as well as issues of mutual interest. They also agreed to open an embassy for the UAE in Belgrade and for Serbia in Abu Dhabi. The UAE Foreign Minister and the Serbian Foreign Minister signed the air transport services agreement, an agreement on mutual exemption of pre-entry visa requirement for the holders of diplomatic passports and an agreement to set up a joint committee between the two countries. Sheikh Abdullah expressed his pleasure and confidence about the growth of relations, noting that his current visit to Serbia would further contribute to strengthening of the relations. He said at a joint press conference with his Serbian counterpart that the high profile and continuous visits of the leaders of two countries and the huge volume of various UAE investments, including the aviation, agriculture, infrastructure and defence have contributed to the speedy development of the diplomatic ties since their inception in 2007. "We attended today the signing of a number of agreements between the United Arab Emirates and the Republic of Serbia. This reflects the development of bilateral relations in all fields," Sheikh Abdullah added. He noted that the tourism and trade exchange between the two countries have seen remarkable growth, with there now being 11 weekly flights by the national carriers. In 2013, 2004 Serbs were residing in the UAE. The UAE Foreign Minister reiterated that he looks forward to more cooperation in a number of areas to strengthen relations with Serbia. For his part, the Serbian Foreign Minister thanked the UAE for providing a loan to his country through the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) and for the Emirati investments in Serbia. He also commended the UAE for its support to security and stability in the Balkans. The meeting was attended by Abdul Aziz Nasser Al Shamsi, UAE's non-resident ambassador to Serbia. |
