Trade and Industry Minister Mounir Fakhri Abdel-Nour banned importing of tuk tuks and motorcycles with the purpose of trade.
The ban would not be applied to imports of tricycles and chassis, a statement by the Ministry said on 27/5/2014. Abdel-Nour said that a committee has been formed to set up an electronic system that would enable the customs authority to inform the traffic department of released and reported vehicles. This, he added, will be done in cooperation with the Ministry of Local Development. The decision was made after the Cabinet approved the step in its meeting last week. It is meant to reduce the number of vehicles that can be used in criminal acts. |
