President Abdel Fattah El Sisi visited on Thursday the French National Assembly (parliament) where he met with its President Claude Bartolone, before wrapping up his visit to Paris, said Presidential Spokesman Alaa Yousef.
Following a parade by the guard of honor in the courtyard of the parliament, the two sides held talks on the situation in the Middle East and the Egyptian efforts to push the peace process ahead and settle the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, the spokesman added. The French parliament was to vote on a resolution recognizing the Palestinian state, said Bartolone. He noted that his country appreciated the Egyptian role in reaching a truce in the Gaza Strip between the Palestinians and Israel, praising Egypt's comeback as a diplomatic power in the Middle East and Africa. For his part, Sisi hailed as "positive" the French parliament's move to recognize the Palestinian statehood. "The move is a sign of hope for the Palestinians and encourages the Israelis to proceed with peace," Sisi said. He stressed that the Palestinian cause would remain Arabs' pivotal issue and would always figure high in Egypt's foreign policy. The president of the national assembly offered condolences to Sisi over the deaths of Armed Forces and police personnel in the recent terrorist attacks in Egypt, stressing his country's full sympathy with Egypt to fight such heinous acts. He also lauded the Egyptian measures at the level of political and economic reforms and its serious pursuit to hold the parliamentary elections. |
