The UAE-Catalonia Forum took place in Barcelona, Spain, this week. The event, organised by the UAE Ministry of Economy, in cooperation with the UAE's Consulate-General in Barcelona, welcomed the participation of high-profile figures and more than 400 Emirati and Spanish companies.
Juma Mohammed Al Kait, Assistant Under-Secretary at the Ministry of Economy for Foreign Trade Affairs, headed the UAE trade and investment delegation in the presence of Salem Rashid Al Owais, UAE Consul-General in Barcelona. The Catalan side was represented by the Catalan Business Federation, Barcelona Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and other Catalan institutions. The forum reviewed ways to promote trade and economic relations between the two sides and the available investment opportunities as well as to focus on sectors of mutual interests. In his keynote speech, Al Kait said that the trade exchange volume between the UAE and Spain exceeded US$2 billion in 2014, compared to US$2.6 billion in 2015. He also reviewed the distinguished ties between the two countries at all levels by focussing on the strength of economic and trade ties as well as the significant presence of the private sector of the UAE and Spanish investors in the two countries' markets. Al Kait pointed out that there are more than 100 Spanish trade agencies and over 2,737 trademarks registered with the UAE Ministry of Economy. |
