The Central Bank of Bahrain (CBB) said Monday it has granted a wholesale bank (branch) license to the Bank of Jordan to operate in the Gulf nation.

Ahmed Abdulaziz Al-Bassam, Director of Licensing at the CBB, said "The Central Bank of Bahrain welcomes the Bank of Jordan's decision to open a wholesale bank (branch) here for its position as a financial hub in the region." "Bank of Jordan's presence here will positively reflect on its business and help foster commercial and financial ties between the two countries," he added.

In turn, Shaker Fakhouri, Chairman of the Board of Bank of Jordan, said: "We picked Bahrain as our first regional hub due to its prominent record as a center for banking services.

The Central Bank of Bahrain has a noted reputation as high-profile regulator in the GCC region. Moreover, Bahrain has a strategic location in the GCC area, a fact that gives us the opportunity to expand our wholesale banking activities and relationships with the regional banks and companies.

" The Bank of Jordan, licensed by the Central Bank of Jordan, was established in 1960 as a public shareholding limited company with headquarters in Amman, and its shares listed on Amman Stock Exchange.
