Finance Minister Shaikh Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa has led Bahrain’s delegation to the Economic & Social Council Preparatory Meeting in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The meeting was centred on the preparations for the Arab Summit to be hosted by Saudi Arabia on 15 April 2018. In his keynote address, the Saudi Minister of Finance, Mohammed bin Abdullah Al-Jadaan, stressed the need to strengthen Arab joint economic and financial endeavours and exploit available opportunities for Arab economies. The Arab League Secretary General, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, emphasised in his speech the importance of accomplishing the implementation of the Greater Arab Free Trade Area (GAFTA) and the Arab Customs Union; an essential requirement for Arab economic integration. Progress achieved in this respect was among the topics discussed during the meeting, along with the current situation of trade and investment in Arab countries. Developing further small and medium-sized enterprises as a key player in Arab economies was also an area of discussion, as well as the role of public–private partnerships as a driving force for enhancing efficiency and the creation of more job opportunities. |
