Egypt is exerting tremendous efforts at all levels to partake in power grid projects carried out in the region to be linked to neighboring countries to its east and west; in order to become a regional power hub.
Regarding power grid with Sudan, the 220-kilovolt double-circuit transmission line "Toshka 2/ Wadi Halfa" is currently being built. The line, which extends for 100 km, will provide Sudan with 200-300 MW and its constructions will take 3 months and cost 6.7 million dollars. A delegation from the Egyptian ministry of electricity and L&T Indian company, operator of the project, paid a visit to the transmission line. Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mohamed Shaker said that the ministry is currently considering electrical linkage projects to Egypt's south deep in Africa to benefit from the abundant water resources there. |
