Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli had a meeting with Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) Jin Liqun and his accompanying delegation to discuss ways of boosting cooperation.
The Ministers of Electricity, Investment, Planning, Transport, Finance, Irrigation, and the governor of the Central Bank of Egypt attended the meeting. Madbouli expressed his happiness that Egypt is the first non-Asian country to be visited by AIIB officials, adding that Egypt is looking forward to bolstering cooperation with the AIIB. The Premier hailed the bank's decision to give Egypt a special status in terms of the bank's strategy for funding non-regional countries, pointing out that AIIB funds projects here worth $510 million. Liqun, during the meeting, stressed that AIIB pays great attention to Egypt, therefore, it was the first non-Asian country where the bank officials visit. He said that over the past days, he got posted by the Egyptian government plans in the fields of economic, financial and monetary reform, terming Egypt's recent accomplishments as "impressive." He also hailed the great construction being carried out in the New Administrative Capital. During the meeting, Hesham Arafat, the Transport Minister, expressed Egypt's interest in benefiting from cooperation with the bank in the domains of roads, railway, and transportation. AIIB officials welcomed Arafat's suggestion as the transport sector occupies second place in investments after energy. |
