Trade and Industry Minister Tareq Qabil attributed the decline in Egypt's trade deficit in the first six months of the current year to his ministry’s efforts in supporting the export sector.
In statements, Qabil said that the trade ministry managed to stop the decline in the country's exports for nearly 15 months. He further underlined new decisions taken by the ministry to regulate imports and prevent the entry of low-quality products. In its bulletin, the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) said that the trade deficit declined by 11.3% in the first half of 2016, registering EGP 173.1 billion compared to EGP 195.3 billion during the same period in 2015. According to CAPMAS, the value of Egyptian exports increased by 15.9% in June, registering EGP 17.1 billion compared to EGP 14.8 billion in June 2015. |
