Such a cooperation would include developing human resources, providing technical aid supplies and building abilities, Shaker said.
Shaker's remarks came at the conclusion of the 52nd meeting of the Association of Power Utilities of Africa (APUA).
In a statement of the Ministry of Electricity , Shaker said more than 60% of the African population suffer from shortage of electricity supplies. It is necessary to unify efforts to provide the African continent with modern technology in the field of power to achieve development and find an electrical system that links the African countries together, Shaker said. Necessary measures were taken to establish power stations based on clean coal technology in Hamrawin area on the Red Sea coast with the capacity of 6,000 megawatts, he said. The electricity sector is working on liberalizing the electricity market and boosting competition in the field of electricity production, he added. Egypt is working on power linkage projects with Jordan, Saudi Arabia and Sudan, he said. Shaker reviewed the efforts of the electricity sector in the field of local manufacturing. |
